How To Protect Babies from Mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes can be a real nuisance for adults, but they are especially dangerous to babies. Babies don't yet have the natural defenses that we do as adults, and mosquitoes are one of their primary sources of illness. Here are 7 tips to keep your baby safe from mosquito bites!

1. Mosquito repellents: If your baby is exposed to mosquito bites, you can use some popular over-the-counter insecticidal skin creams or lotions. These products act as barriers to repel mosquitoes for up to 8 hours and should be reapplied when necessary.

2. Bed nets: Use mosquito netting over a baby's travel bed or crib to protect him/her from mosquitoes. An inexpensive baby mosquito net bed  is widely available. Mosquito nets are an effective way to prevent bites and greatly reduce the risk of exposure to malaria.

3. Room Air Conditioning Unit: Keep your baby comfortable with air-conditioning units that use a fan to blow the cool air directly on your baby. Letting your child breathe in cooler air will help ease and prevent mosquito bites.

4. Net curtains: Install net curtains around the windows and doors in the rooms where your baby sleeps. These keep out mosquitoes and other flying pests such as flies that may be carrying dengue fever. Net curtains on windows and doors are also a good way to keep mosquitoes out of the rest of your home.

5. Try mosquito-repelling fragrances: You can purchase electric plug-ins that contain repelling scents to keep mosquitoes away in rooms where your baby sleeps.

6. Citronella candles and coils: Mosquitoes do not like citronella scents. You can use these to repel mosquitoes in the outdoor areas where your baby plays and indoors when you are sitting outside with your child.

7. Bats: One of nature's mosquito hunters! You can install a bat house or a bat box in your garden to reduce the mosquito population and keep them from entering your home.

All of these are great tips for making your baby's environment more mosquito-proof!
